Waste Processing for Home Use

Plastic is the most difficult material to decompose by the soil. It takes at least 50-100 years for plastic to decompose. Yet the use of plastic in the world is so large. In Indonesia, 64 million tons of plastic waste are produced annually, of which 3.2 million tons of plastic waste ends up in the ocean. Of course, this is not a good sign, so the campaign to reduce plastic waste is becoming more and more intense in the community. Plastic bags are starting to be replaced with cloth bags, plastic straws are being replaced with stainless steel Möbelentsorgung Berlin straws, people are also starting to use tumblers and places to eat when buying snacks.

The steps above can indeed reduce the use of plastic waste. However, what about the plastic waste that already exists? Like it or not, existing plastic waste must be processed so that it does not accumulate. Here are some alternatives to processing plastic waste into useful items in your home:

1. Ecobrick
If around your house there is plastic waste such as mineral water bottles, snack packaging, straws, plastic bags, don't be in a hurry to throw it away. The plastic waste can be processed into ecobricks. Ecobricking is done by putting waste into plastic bottles until the plastic bottles become solid. The solid plastic bottles are then arranged into useful items, such as garden fences, furniture, and even building walls. How to make ecobricks is not difficult. You just need to prepare plastic bottles, clean and dry plastic waste. There should be no residual water, oil, or other debris in the collected garbage.

After that, fill each plastic bottle with the garbage that has been cleaned earlier. Fill the bottle until it is solid. Make sure the plastic bottles used are the same size and shape. Glue the bottles that are already solid to form the object you need. For example chairs, tables, garden dividers. The number of bottles needed is adjusted to what furniture you want to make. The bigger the furniture you want to make, the more bottles you have to prepare.

2. Plant Pots It is
not uncommon to use plastic waste as plant pots. Plant pots can use various types of plastic waste, such as plastic bottles, beverage packaging, used cooking oil plastic, and detergent packaging. If around the house there are plastic bottles of mineral water, you can use them as pots. You can use a whole bottle, or divide the bottle into two parts first. After that give small holes in the bottle body. The function of the bottle as a flow of water. Add soil as a planting medium, and seeds into it. You can unleash your creative power by decorating and making bottles more beautiful.

The same processing method also applies to other waste materials. Whatever the plastic material, one thing that needs to be ensured when processing it into a plant pot is to give holes for water to flow.

3. Plastic Baskets
Around your house are there a lot of used plastic shopping bags at supermarkets? You can use it as a multipurpose plastic basket. The method is very easy to follow. First you have to prepare a plastic bag. The number of plastic bags depends on the size of the basket you want to make. After the plastic bag is collected, you can cut it lengthwise.

Braid the plastic piece. Since it will be braided, you will need at least three plastic parts. The length of the plastic waste braid depends on the basket you want to make. It is important to know, loose braids will make it difficult for you to sew them with the basket base later. While a braid that is too tight will make the braid smaller and lose its beautiful texture.

After the elongated plastic braid is formed. Form the braid into a basket by sewing it. First make it from the base of the basket first. After that the side of the basket. When all is done the basket is ready to use.
